MIER organizes lecture on 'prevention of heart diseases'

Jammu, Feb 19: Shrimati Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies (SSGCWS), MIER organized a lecture on the theme Women and Health and the topic was "Prevention of Heart Diseases." The resource person was Dr Amit Misri Senior Consultant in Cardiology -Medanta, Gurgaon.
Students along with the HODs of various Departments of the College attended the lecture.
Suvidha Jamwal ,B.Ed student extended a warm welcome to the resource person and introduced him as an expert in the field of Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Cardiac Interventions and Congenital Heart Disease.
He has more than ten years of experience in preventive cardiology.
In his address, Dr. Misri told the audience that cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the diseases that involve the heart or blood vessels.
Globally, cardiovascular diseases have become the leading cause of mortality and it has been observed that younger age group is equally venerable.
It is estimated that heart diseases and stroke are responsible for more than 80% of CVD deaths.
He elaborated on different risk factors of heart disease such as age, gender, tobacco use, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, obesity, genetic predisposition, family history etc.
Dr. Misri elaborated on the screening and early detection procedures and steps like echoc-ardiography, myocardial perfusion imaging and cardiac stress testing.
He stressed on the following interventions which can help in minimizing the risk of heart diseases: active life style, limited consumption of alcohol, lower blood pressure, obesity management, low intake of fat and sugar, healthy diet and decrease psychological stress. He provided health life style examples from day-to-day life.
