2/20/2018 12:29:33 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 19: Despite having two cabinet ministers in the cabinet, the education institutions of district Rajouri have been craving for infrastructure and manpower since the announcement about degree colleges was made.
Degree colleges including GDC, Budhal, GDC, Kalakote and GDC Sunderbani were announced by previous regime in the financial year, 2007-08, and other two were announced in 2010-11. "But decade on, the colleges san proper buildings," said the locals.
Locals said that Government Degree College, Budhal functioned from Government Higher Secondary School, Budhal from the very beginning. "However, the construction work of the college building Budhal was assigned to Roads and Buildings Department at the estimated cost of Rs 10 Crores. The construction agency has erected academic and administration blocks while as allied works like construction of compound wall, internal road and construction of library are under process and likely to be completed by end of this financial year", said sources.
The other two colleges announced by the previous government in financial year 2010-11, since the announcement, one college (GDC, Sunderbani) is operating from old building of Govt. Middle Schools Sunderbani and other one is functional from the Government Higher Secondary School, Kalakote.
"The negligence on part of Higher Education Department can be gauged from this fact that despite allocation of sufficient funds by the government side, the department concerned has only acquired 38 Kanals 14 Marla at Sair for degree college Kalakote", said sources.
They further said that the inordinate delay to complete the college buildings in educationally backward blocks has forced the students to go to city colleges for higher education.
