Delhi chief secretary alleges assault by AAP MLAs, party refutes charges

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash today alleged that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators physically assaulted him at chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence yesterday, reported Times Now.
Even as AAP called the allegations "ludicrous" and said Prakash is making these claims at the behest of the BJP, Delhi government employees said they are going on strike to protest the alleged assault.
"We are going on a strike with immediate effect, we are with our chief secretary, until they (those at fault) are not arrested we will not get back (to work)," said DN Singh, president of Delhi Administrative Subordinate Services, to ANI.
The Congress meanwhile has jumped in to comment on the controversy, and is supporting Prakash.
Prakash alleged that he was physically assaulted by two AAP MLAs during a meeting at the chief minister's residence yesterday and in front of CM Kejriwal. He claimed a meeting had been called by CM Kejriwal to discuss the issue of "advertisements".
"There was a heated exchange at the meeting last night. During the argument, two-three AAP MLAs manhandled him... the CS's spectacles also got broken," alleged a senior IAS official, who did not wish to be named.
AAP claims the meeting was called to discuss issues to to with faulty ration distribution and accused Prakash of using "bad language" against its MLAs at yesterday's meeting."About 2.5 lakh families deprived of rations last month due to faulty implementation of Aadhaar. MLAs were under tremendous pressure from public. There was a meeting of MLAs at CM residence. The chief secretary refused to answer questions saying that he was not answerable to MLAs and CM and that he was answerable only to LG. He even used bad language against some MLAs and left without answering any questions," said AAP."Now he is making such ludicrous allegations. Obviously, he is doing it at BJP's behest. BJP has stooped very low in disrupting governance in Delhi through LG and officers," a statement released by the party said.
The Delhi Administrative Services Association has convened a meeting to decide on the future course of action. The Association may file an FIR against the MLAs.The Congress party's Sandeep Dikshit supported Prakash without explicitly saying so.
The incident "clarifies how AAP is involved in malpractices and corruption. If something good happens Kejriwal and his MLAs take credit and if it's something bad, onus falls on goverment," said Dikshit.
