Politicization in development projects leads to unending woes for valley residents | Inauguration of first phase of JCRB flyover delayed due to politics | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 8: Inauguration of development projects meant for providing comfort to the common masses are always kept out of the purview of politics, but this rule does not apply with respect to Jammu & Kashmir. Everything in the state is politically motivated and same has been proved with regard to a prestigious project in summer capital of the state. The initial phase of the project was supposed to be thrown open in January, but the same has been delayed due to politics. In the last week of December 2017 works minister, Naeem Akhtar visited the site of two and half kilometers long Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh (JCRB) flyover near Zum Zum crossing. The officials of Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) told the minister that the work on the first phase of flyover is almost done and it can be thrown open at any time. Akhtar directed the officials to carry out macadamization of the stretch from Rambagh to Haft Chinar so that the same is thrown open for traffic in the first half of January. The throwing open of road was expected to provide relief to the common masses, but the same did not materialize up to this moment of time. Sources told Early Times that despite the issuance of directions no headway has been made with regard to the opening of first phase of JCRB flyover. They said that people would continue to suffer on this front at least for the next couple of months. "As the durbar usually moves to Srinagar from Jammu in the first week of May the government has made up its mind to inaugurate the first phase of JCRB flyover at that point of time. The first day of Durbar is all likely to see the movement of traffic on the first phase of JCRB flyover connecting Barzulla with Haft Chinar," said sources. Sources said that the stretch from Barzulla to Haft Chinar can be thrown open to the traffic even today since only minor works have to be carried out. They said that as the flyover is made up of cement concrete the vehicles can move on the same even in the present day context. "The macadamization on the flyover can be taken up as and when the weather improves with regard to the same. By that time the road can be used for movement of the people and traffic. However, for this the people need to be honest and committed. Unfortunately, the same is not existent in Jammu & Kashmir," said sources. Sources said that politics overshadows each and everything in the state and same has happened with respect to the inauguration of the first phase of JCRB flyover. They said that this is despite the fact that frequent travelers are facing huge problems due to diversion of traffic coming from the different parts of Srinagar and Budgam districts. |
