People caution Govt against divisive policies
3/13/2018 10:46:07 PM
Early Times Report
Rajouri, Mar 13: People of Nowshera today took out a half naked protest rally on 26th day of their indefinite strike seeking status of district.
Recently state government had announced post of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) on rotational basis for Nowshera and Sunderbani tehsils with headquarters at Nowshera, but the people of Nowshera have rejected these arrangements alleging that the government has initiated a step to divide the people.
"Our demand of district status is long pending and successive government have deceived the people of Nowshera with hollow promises. Now, the time has come and people have decided to continue their struggle till they get the district status" said Subhash Kapoor, president Beopar Mandal.
He added "our youth, who can go to any extent, but we have decided to carry our struggle peacefully till the government doesn't come out with its final decision.
Other members of the joint action committee, spearheading the ongoing indefinite strike, said that on one hand people of Nowshera are victims of frequent mortar shelling on the LoC since 1948 and on the other hand government has adopted wait and watch policy as for as our demand of district status is concerned.
"Our people, who are mostly associated either with business activities or agriculture were facing a loss of Rs3 crores daily but still they decided to continue their struggle peacefully" said members of JAC.
They warned the state government not to play with the sentiments of the people and stop adopting 'divide policy to sabotage our struggle' which was evident from Yesterdays' incident in which five leaders from BJP and PDP were injured.
Meanwhile, people of Kalakot also continued their struggle for district status on 16th day today.
The protesters were joined by former MLAs including Rashpal Singh (NC) and Ashok Sharma (Congress).
Rashpal Singhhas appealed to Abdul Ghani Kohli, MLA Kalakot (BJP) to join the people in their struggle.
