Hakla demands special attention to nomadic | | | Early Times Report
Poonch, April 1: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi, the prominent Gujjar leader has urged the government to give special attention towards Gujjars and Bakarwals mostly resides in far- flung, hilly and mountainous areas near the forests in the state. He said that nomadic Gujjars can be divided in two tribes Dodhi Gujjars and Bakarwal Gujjars in state. One tribe of Gujjar is known as Dodhi or Banyara Gujjars. These people keep buffalos and lead a nomadic life and are homeless. Hakla said that Bakarwal Gujjars are the second tribe of homeless and nomadic Gujjars. Bakarwals mainly keep goats and sheeps besides other animals and these are their main source of livelihood. He said that these people are living a miserable and hard life. Gujjar Bakarwal community has its habitation in almost twenty (20) districts of state. Their areas are lacking in facility like road communication, electricity, water supply schemes, medical facilities and educational facilities which put them in lots of hardships and troubles. The needs and the problems of Gujjar Bakarwal community are quite different from other communities of state. Language and culture of Gujjar Bakarwal community is also different from other communities of state and as such the community has a distinct identity and a peculiar position. Hakla said that Nomadic Gujjar Bakarwal community of state is socially, educationally, economically and politically backward. |
