Anantnag, May 5: The Public Works Department is constructing a school building in Hapthnard-Aishmuqam village of Anantnag since 2013, but it has not completed it yet. As per details available with Early Times, the PWD started construction of the building in 2013 after the school got upgraded to high school level. Neither the Education department nor the R&B department issue a show cause notice to the contractor, reports said. Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RAMSA) is funding construction of the school building. Locals said that contractor took almost four years to construct the ground floor of the building. "Presently, building stands constructed but the contractor hasn't installed windows and doors because of which school isn't being shifted," they said. They said the school, with more than 500 students on rolls, is currently functioning from three rooms which too aren't in a good condition. "These three rooms were constructed two decades ago and are in shambles," they added. Teachers and students said they were suffering due to space shortage. "In rainy season we close down some classes and tell the students to stay home as we don't have required rooms and enough space here," a teacher said. Chief Education Officer Anantnag, Dr Nasir, assured that he will again take up the issue with the concerned department. "R&B department had assured us that they will complete it before 31st December of last year. Why they failed, I will find out and take up the issue with them," he said. |
