GDC Baramulla allows Prof to enjoy residential quarters
APs dumped in hostel room

Early Times Report

Jammu, May 12: The administration of Government Degree College Baramulla has dumped few Assistant Professors (APs) in a hostel room whereas the double storey residential quarter has been given to a professor and his family.
Despite repeated requests by the APs, the Principal of College has not been accepting their request allegedly due to close relationship with the professor as both are from Uri.
Sources informed Early Times that the college has a double storey residential quarter of 2BHK at each storey. "For the last many years, the double storey building has been occupied by the warden of boys hostel and his family", sources said, adding that the warden of hostel and Principal of college were actually friends and they have not been allowing the usage of facility by other faculty members working in the college.
Many APs from remote areas of the district are deputed in the college but they are dumped in a one room of boys hostel. "The APs are not allowed to cook food in the hostel room and they cannot eat at non functional hostel mess, so they are forced to go outside for eatables", sources said, adding that if they would be allotted the residential quarters, they would be able to make food and would give their full towards studies.
The Principal of the college, Prof. H.R Baig said that the second floor of the two storey building was damaged and was not fit to stay there. The college is in the process of making some repairs after which, it would be given to the faculty members, who have families with them.
Contradicting the claims of Principal, the hostel warden said that the second storey of the building was good enough to live and could be allotted to someone. He further said that there was no applicant who had applied for the building, due to which same was not allotted to anyone. On being asked about occupying the post of hostel warden for the last many years, he said that he would ultimately leave the post, once he was transferred from the college.
Sources said that there were many professors in the College, who have been deputed in the college for the last over many years in total violation of transfer policy. "As per transfer policy the maximum stay of a college faculty member in one college is not more than three years but there are many faculty members who are in the college for the last over 8-10 years", sources said.
