High alert ahead of PM's visit | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 18: In the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to the restive state of Jammu and Kashmir, the security agencies have sounded a high alert in the region amid possible threat of militant attacks in the state. Sources said the intelligence agencies have inputs that the militants were desperate to make their presence felt during the PM's scheduled visit to the state. The inputs suggest that the militants would try to execute attack in the summer capital of Srinagar and Jammu regions. "While the militants have been active in Kashmir areas, there are reports that five militants have infiltrated into the Jammu region through some underground tunnel. This design suggests that they are trying hard to carry out some attack," said a police official. He said in the recent past "some kind of militant activity has also been noticed in the summer capital of Srinagar", which till a few years ago was seen as a militant free district. Sources said there were inputs that the militants would try to execute attack at some sensitive installations only to be in news. But the security paraphernalia has been beefed up to thwart any such attack. "Our forces are on alert and terrorists won't get any chance," a police official said on the condition of anonymity. Multi-tier security is in place while police and paramilitary have raised security check posts. Sources said the police, paramilitary and the Army are coordinating to ensure that high profile visit passes off peacefully. |
