GDC Thathri organizes Seminar and rally-cum-cleanliness drive on the occasion of World Environment Day

thathri, June 5: Govt. Degree College, Thathri today organized one day seminar and a rally on the occasion of World Environment Day. The event began with an awareness rally from college campus to bus stand via hospital road and back to college. The rally was led by Surinder Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Education. All the teaching and non-teaching staff of college besides students of first semester participated in the rally. The Rally culminated in a cleanliness drive led by Ajay Kumar, in and around the college campus.
The Rally was followed by a symposium based on this year's theme of the World Environment Day i.e. 'Beat Plastic Pollution'. Anoj Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of English, GDC, Thathri presented the welcome address and apprised the audience about the profile of the college and explained new initiatives being taken for progressive growth of the Institute. Muzaffar Ahmed, Assistant Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences and organizing secretary of the event presented the keynote address and introduced the theme of the seminar. He apprised the audience about the menace of plastic pollution and how it is degrading our day to day life. A total of 15 students participated in the symposium. The first prize was bagged by Shahid Saleem, second prize by Shaveta Devi, third prize by Bilal Ahmed and consolation prize by Riyaz Ahmed, all students of semester 1st . Prof. Shamboo Nath In-charge Principal of the college in his address explained to students how plastic affects our day-to-day life and how it has become a necessary evil. He asked students to do whatever is possible to minimize the use of plastic. The programme was organized under the overall supervision of Principal, GDC, Thathri, Dr. Shafqat Hussain Rafiqui.
The judges for the event were Dr. Zahoor Ahmed and Arshad Ayoub. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Majid Gani Zargar.
