Deadwood finds resurrection at Secretariat's 5th floor | Ex-college Principal to get 2-yr extension | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 6: A former college Principal is about to get an extension of two years, a few months after he retired this year. The state government, sources told Early Times, is all set to bend its very own rules to accord the undue benefits to this 'blue-eyed' Principal who has been striving hard to get his work done from the power corridors. The sources privy to the development said the Principal in question has been in close contact with a senior politician of the state, pleading before him to get an extension of two more years. Such an act, if allowed, would not only violate the rules but will also deny the promotional prospects to the academicians who are waiting in the queue with all legality. "This will once again prove that the politics have infiltrated into the academics, that too in a ruthless way. If the Principal in question is accorded the two-year extension, then it is going to create a nepotistic image of the state dispensation which keeps beating the trumpet of transparency and equality," says an official privy to the development. The Principal retired on superannuation in the month of April this year. As the farewell was accorded to him, little did his colleagues know that he would strive again to grab the lost post. As per the reports, the retired Principal could be these days seen strolling around the alleys of the 5th floor of the Civil Secretariat, striving hard to somehow grab his lost castle. "It could be easily found how desperate he is to get the two-year extension. He has some scores to set and he finds it as a golden opportunity to fulfil the unfulfilled wish," says an official. Lobbying in whatever ways he can, this retired Principal is making hectic efforts to impress upon the incumbent minister for higher education to give him the extension of two more years. Notably, no academician has so far been appointed at the place of the retired Principal in the college which is located in the old city of Srinagar. The government had earlier acknowledged that granting extensions or re-employment to former officials is affecting the prospects of those in active service, and had imposed a total ban on the practice. The state Cabinet directed the General Administration Department not to entertain any proposals seeking an extension and advised the various departments against submitting requests for the same. The decision was taken after the government admitted that in contradiction to its policy to discourage the practice, it had handed re-employment to nearly 200 former employees. Now when the government gives an extension to this 'blue-eyed' Principal only because of his political approach, all its claims and rules would get bellied by such act. |
