Rassana case: Kashmir based groups threaten lawyers against defending accused | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 15: Some Kashmir based groups have threatened defense lawyers of Rassana case against defending the accused. These groups through social media have warned of dire consequences to the lawyers who have been defending accused in the Pathankot Court. Interacting with media persons at Pathankote, all the defense lawyers have pleaded before the court that some Kashmir based groups have threatned to kill family members of the lawyers if they fight legal battle in the court of law to defend the accused. According to reports all 16 defence lawyers today moved a joint application before the the Court informing it that they are being trolled on social media and are getting life threats from Kashmir Valley. Some to some posts in the social media Advocate Aseem Sawhney said they are being trolled on social media like facebook and whatsapp just to threaten and intimidate the defence counsels. "We did not ask for any security but the motive of this application was just to convey the court that if something wrong happen with any defence counsel, the J&K government would be responsible for it. We are being intimidated and threatened through social media that we would be slaughtered if anyone of us visited Kashmir Valley," Sawhney said, adding "we want to make it sure that we will not bow down by these threats and would work professionally". Earlier one of the 221 witnesses in the infamous Kathua rape and murder case has alleged threat to his life after recording his statement before the trial court in Pathankot. Jammu SSP (crime) Ramesh Kumar Jalla filed an application on Thursday before the district and sessions judge, Tejwinder Singh, alleging that a witness had received threats from the accused facing trial in Pathankot. In the case, seven accused are facing trial in Pathankot and the court has to rule whether the eighth accused is a juvenile as he has claimed. Strongly opposing the submission of the application by the Jammu SSP, the counsel for one of the accused, advocate A K Sawhney told the court that this was an attempt to sensationalize the case. Sawhney said that Jalla has no locus standi or jurisdiction to file such an application on behalf of any witness. He added that there was no chance of any witness being intimidated by any of the accused as all of them are behind bars. |
