Early Times Report
BANDIPORA, July 1: At least five persons were killed and three others injured after a Tata Sumo vehicle carrying passengers met with an accident near Tragbal in Gurez valley of this north Kashmir district on Sunday.
According to sources that at least 5-8 persons were travelling in a vehicle that was on its way from Kangan area of Ganderbal district to Tulail of Gurez valley.
A vehicle (Sumo) (JK01F-9547) was on its way to Gurez met with an accident at Tragbal area of Gurez and fell down into a deep gorge, said sources.
Sources telephoned Early Times and said that in the mishap, five passengers died on the spot while as three others suffered major injuries and were evacuated to nearby hospital for treatment where the condition of one person is stated to be critical.
A top police official confirmed to ET that, five passengers died while as two were injured in the mishap.
It seems that the driver has lost the control over vehicle due to which it fell into deep gorge, adding the bodies were taken to the nearby hospital for medical formalities including postmortem, the bodies will be sent to the relatives in Tulail valley for last rites.
"A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations were taken up," the official said.
Meanwhile local residents of Gurez valley said that, the road is in shambles as government and Border Roads Organization (BRO) failed to repair the road after snowfall.
The condition of this hilly road can be gauged from the fact that the journey from Bandipora to Gurez, which could be covered in only two hours, takes more than 4-5 hours due to the dilapidated road condition, said Javid Ahmad of Gurez.
He said that today five persons died after they were traveling in the ill-fated vehicle that fell into the deep gorge and the concerned authorities of R&B, and BRO are in deep slumber.
