Farmers appeal Guv to pass ordinance | New Land Acquisition law in J&K | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 1: As people affected by land acquisition for various central Government projects feel discriminated vis a vis payment of compensation , the farmers across state have urged the Governor to pass an ordinance so that J&K state has a law which guarantees payment of fair compensation which is already applicable across the country from last 5 years. Ring Road Land Owners Welfare Committee J&K today appealed Governor to immediately pass an ordinance for the benefit of farmers where fair compensation rehabilitation and resettlement is guaranteed. Sarat Dubey from Jammu region and Haji Ghulam Hussain from Kashmir region who are senior members of the affected farmers group said that the farmers have been dejected by the elected Government. " We have full belief that under Governor’s rule issue related to enactment of new Land Acquisition Act will be a dream come true. We appeal Governor Shri Vohra and his advisors to come to farmers rescue who are loosing land at peanuts. Our state has very less landholding as compared to other states. Instead of giving us more compensation that other states, authorities like NHPC and NHAI are snatching our land for very meager compensation " said Kulbhushan Khajuria senior famer leader from Jammu. Pertinent to mention that after issuing an interim order in favour of farmers affected by Semi Ring Road in Srinagar, the High Court issued a similar order in favour of farmers affected by Ring Road in Jammu recently. High Court Justice M K Hanjura in his order had directed the Government to consider payment of compensation to farmers from Jammu as per the Oct 4th 2017 communication of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) wherein they had agreed to pay 4 times compensation than market value of land to farmers affected by Ring Road project in Budgam. High Court after hearing a petition filed by affected farmers from Jammu region through their counsel Abhinav Sharma had directed J&K Government to file their objections. High Court Justice M K Hanjura directed the respondents to consider the payment of compensation as per the previous communication of NHAI dated Oct 4th 2017. Before this J&K High Court had issued an interim direction in March this year asking NHAI / Govt to pay compensation which is 4 times more than the market value of land. This direction was passed after scores of farmers from Kashmir valley filed a writ petition before High Court through their counsel M Y Bhat senior advocate. |
