Congress & NC wish for early Assembly poll
7/1/2018 11:01:53 PM
Though the Governor, N.N. Vohra, has kept the Assembly in a suspended animation the state unit of the Congress and the National Conference nurse the hope of having fresh elections within six months of the Governor's rule. No doubt the Governor's rule, as per the constitution, may not exceed beyond a period of six months, still the Governor has the option to inform the centre of the delicate security scenario which may motivate the centre to place the state of Jammu and Kashmir under the President's rule. Despite this option the National Conference and the Congress are getting ready to face the election and regain power which they had lost in 2014 Assembly election. That is the reason for the NC vice-president, Omar Abdullah to berate the PDP for all the sins that exist in the state and has emboldened the former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, to hold responsible the Army and the security forces for killing more civilians than militants during the ongoing operations against the militants. And one senior advocate has filed a sedition case against Azad in the Delhi High Court. His claim that security forces and the Army have been killing more civilians than militants in Kashmir is a part of the plan of the Congress to strengthen its vote bank.
National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah has said that PDP's consistent U-turns, broken promises and the summary betrayal of the 2014 mandate created widespread disillusionment and disenchantment in the Valley and led to an unprecedented deterioration of the situation as is being witnessed currently. Omar seems to have forgotten the situation that existed during his rule. It was a sea saw battle between the militants and the security forces during Omar's six year rule. Addressing a delegates' convention for Chrar-e-Sharief constituency at Budgam the other day Omar said the people of the State witnessed destruction, disillusionment and alienation from the very day Prime Minister Modi and late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed joined hands and formed an alliance that ridiculed the mandate and the aspirations of the people. "The injustice, persecution and oppression that has been perpetuated against the people especially the youth since the past three and a half years has no parallel in the State's history.
Since the Congress and the National Conference plan to forge a pre-poll alliance for outwitting the PDP leaders of the Congress and the NC are trying to create a situation which could help the two parties to reverse vote bank erosion which has been witnessed during the 2014 election. Had the coalition between the Congress and the National Conference been able to resolve various problems facing the people the two parties would have not lost the 2014 election. It is unfortunate that Mehbooba failed to fulfill the mission of her late father, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, who had forged an alliance with the BJP for the purpose of ending prolonged regional discrimination and for securing additional financial help from the centre. In fact whatever mess Omar is talking about both the PDP and the BJP are responsible. While he PDP distanced itself from the people of the valley the BJP had distanced itself from the aspirations and desires of the people of the region of Jammu. While the Kashmir had voted in favour of PDP the Jammu region had voted for the BJP allowing it, for the first time, a chance to win 25 seats which left no other alternative for the PDP to forge an alliance with the BJP.
