Govt falters on its promise of pucca house to urban dwellers | Sanctioned 9510, constructed only 188 in 3 years | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 16: Despite incessant thrust of Union Ministry of Housing and Urban development to provide pucca house to urban dwellers under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U), the coalition government of BJP-PDP has failed to deliver. As per the document in possession of Early Times, in state of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union ministry had sanctioned nearly 9,510 pucca houses to urban homeless dwellers in four financial years including 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 but it failed to construct houses in time bound manner. The callousness on part of ministry can be gauged from this fact that since the scheme was launched in state, the government has succeeded to complete only 188 pucca houses in urban areas of the state which show lack of coordination among department and government. As per the document in financial year 2014-15, the government had not completed a single structure across state whereas in financial year, 2015-16, only 62 houses were completed. "In remaining two financial year i,e 2016-17 and 2017-18 the state government completed 26 and 100 structures of pucca houses", the document reads. Sources informed Early Times that however, just after assuming power in Centre in 2014, the National Democratic Alliance government led by Narendra Modi had promised that under the famous scheme PMAY, a pucca house would be provided to all homeless dwellers by 2022 but the slow pace of state government to construct houses, has given dent to the promises made by Prime Minister of India. "The callousness of department can be gauged from the fact that nearly 636 houses are still under construction", they alleged. |
