Out of power Akhter, Farooq talk Kashmir | Politics makes strange bed fellows | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 23: Nearly one month after losing power Naeem Akhter has broken his silence by welcoming the statement of National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on Kashmir. It's strange that bête-noire are talking in the same language. It may be recalled that Dr Farooq Abdullah during his speech in the Parliament had said, "Peace in Jammu and Kashmir is impossible without involving Pakistan. You may not like what I am going to say. We will not have peace in Jammu and Kashmir unless we strike a deal with Pakistan." Akhter while reacting to Dr Farooq's statement said PDP welcomes Dr Farooq's change of heart. "We hope Dr Farooq sticks to it and contributes to the resolution of Kashmir in a positive manner. It is also a high time for the central government to utilise this consensus among the political groups in Kashmir vis-a-vis the peaceful resolution of Kashmir and that the GoI should respond to this consensus at an earliest. Creating political vacuum will not help in any way," Akhter said. "Since the day PDP-BJP government has fallen in the state both NC and PDP seem to be coming closer to each other," said a Kashmir watcher. Leaders of both the parties Abdulllahs and Muftis, he said, are fearing that their MLAs may join hands and take on these powerful families head on. "PDP rebels raising a banner of revolt against the PDP leadership has sent the alarm bells ringing and both the families are feeling threatened," the Kashmir watcher added. He said that Naeem Akhter praising Farooq Abdullah is just an attempt to tell their legislators that only these two families can rule the state. "Both Muftis and Abdullahs are talking about Kashmir being an issue and it needs to be resolved. They are trying to intimidate New Delhi and are trying to project themselves as the only people who can run the state," he added. An analyst said that PDP by projecting Kashmir as an issue is trying to tell New Delhi that It cannot handle Kashmir without Muftis or Abdullahs. "Naeem Akhter has sent a veiled message to Dr Farooq Abdullah that he should not change his statement and PDP supports him. After being left alone by Delhi, PDP is making desperate attempts to prove its worth. The rebel leaders of PDP are giving sleepless nights to Mehbooba Mufti and company. They (Mehbooba and company) have assessed that another set of leaders from Kashmir is all set to come on the forefront and they may be throwing up a surprise after Amarnath Yatra ends. These rebels have raised a banner of revolt against the family raaj and are even eyeing a few people from the NC camp," he added |
