PDD headless since July 31; post of DCP, CE vacant | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 19: The Power Development Department (PDD) which is responsible for providing vital service to general public and that too during the monsoon season, when humidity along with sweltering heat has made life difficult, is running headless for the last over half month. Since the retirement of Chief Engineer as well as Development Commissioner Power, no new appointment has been made by the government despite the fact that the department has the abundance of deserving staff. According to officials in PDD, the post of Chief Engineer has been lying vacant since July 31, when Ashwani Gupta had attained superannuation from the post. Moreover, the post of Development Commissioner Power is vacant since Asgar Ali had retired from services on July 31. "For the last over more than eighteen days, the government has failed to appoint two officers on these vital posts. The delay in appointing the officers has been creating hurdles in the smooth function of their department", sources said. Sources further disclosed that during monsoon season, when humidity got increased, the consumption of power increased, due to increased use of Air-conditioning systems. "Across the Jammu province, due to monsoon showers, technical snags development in supply lines and even transformers gone kaput but the department divisions have no money for maintenance of these lines", sources said, adding that Executive Engineers have been facing it difficult to get the damaged lines repaired on their own and in absence of senior officials, they have been failed to evolve some permanent solution. Sources further disclosed that since April 2018, the department has not been getting any funds for maintenance and due to shortage of funds, it has become difficult to run daily affairs of the department. |
