Reservation of municipal wards: Locals allege misleading information by officials | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Sept 6: After allegations of wrong information provided by the government officials to provide benefit to blue eyed candidate(s) from ST category in the forthcoming Municipal Committee's election, an investigation has been initiated in the matter. Sher Singh, Additional DC said that after the fresh details about the ST population was sought from the Executive Officer (EO), Thanamandi Municipal Committee (MC), the difference between his earlier and latest reports has been detected. "The matter will be taken up with the District Election Officer (DEO) for further action in this matter and action against the erring officials can't be ruled out" said ADC. On Wednesday inhabitants of ward No.11 And 13 of Thanamandi Municipality held a protest demonstration alleging that few government officials have provided wrong information about the ST population in their wards that resulted in the 'reservation of both the wards by election authorities in favour of ST community" said Maqbool Ahmed. Protesters alleged both the ST & Non-ST communities are living in harmony in these wards and some vested interests have attempted to create confusion among them by providing wrong information about ST population for their vested interest to make the ward reserved. The people of these wards have warned a large scale protest if the matter was not considered and both the wards were declared for open category. They alleged in ward No11 out of 530 souls 104 souls belong to ST category while the officials concerned reported that 295 souls belonged to ST category and the ward was reserved . |
