531 kg poppy straw recovered, one apprehended

Ramban, Sept 20: Chanderkote police today claimed to have recovered 531 kg poppy straw (bhukki) from a truck and arrested the truck driver.
Police spokesman said that acting on a specific information regarding transportation of Poppy Straw from South Kashmir towards Jammu/Punjab side, a special naka was raised near Police Station Chanderkote.
"During search of the vehicles, one truck bearing registration number JK03C-4086 loaded with apples was intercepted and put to thorough search and during the process of search, 531 KGs of Poppy Straw got recovered and seized which was in the centre of the vehicle, in between the apple boxes from both sides", said sources.
Driver of the vehicle namely Sukhdev Singh of Kapoorthalla Punjab has been arrested and the vehicle has been seized, said spokesman.
In this connection a case under FIR No 54/2018 under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Chanderkote police station and investigation taken up to ascertain involvement of other persons the criminal act.
He further said that the naka party was headed by Inspector Abid Hussain Bhukhari- SHO Chanderkote under the close supervision of Sanjay Parihar-Additional SP Ramban and overall supervision of Anita Sharma SSP Ramban.
