GCW Parade celebrates Gandhi Jayanti with great enthusiasm | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 4: Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu organised series of events in which the NCC and NSS Wings of the College participated to mark Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary celebrations. The College organised a cleanliness drive in the campus under Swachh Bharat Mission which was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament Jugal Kishore and City MLA Rajesh Gupta. The Eco-club of the College organised a Rangoli Making Competition with the use of eco-friendly materials to spread the message to Save Environment. The Botany Department of the College enrolled 140 student volunteers under the Green Group who would help to make the Campus Clean and Green. Dr Shafat Kakroo, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry delivered a lecture on the importance and status of agriculture and animal husbandry in the State. NCC cadets of the College also undertook a cleanliness drive in the Rani Park near the college. The students also visited the Old Age Home, hospital and District Jail, Amphalla with a view to clean the surroundings of the aforesaid places. A documentary film, 'The silent Gandhi' was screened in the College auditorium which was procured from Jammu Doordarshan. Prof B.B Anand delivered a lecture on Machivelli vs Gandhi. The NCC cadets organised a seminar on 'Swachta: the Way Ahead'. Moreover, a rally was also organised by the college to spread the message of sanitation and hygiene to the community. The students of the college participated in the Prabhat Pheri organised by the City Colleges and proceed to Diwan-e-Khas to give tribute to Gandhiji in a function organised by the Gandhi Global Family. |
