RDD fails to achieve target under PMGY-G | Against target, 90 percent houses under construction | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 7: Giving dent to famous campaign "Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin", launched by Prime Minister Narender Modi in April 2016, the Rural Development Department (RDD) has utterly failed to achieve the target under the scheme more than 90 percent rural houses is under construction. Sources informed Early Times that after restructuring the erstwhile rural housing scheme- Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) into PMAY-G in April, 2016, the Union Ministry of Rural Development had set the target of 38772 rural houses under the scheme by March, 2019. "But unfortunately, the financial year is near about to close, the RDD has succeeded to achieve only 3,621 rural houses in July, 2018 and remaining ones are still under construction", said sources while wishing anonymity. It is pertinent to mention here that under the same scheme, the union ministry had set the target of constructing one Crore rural houses across states/ UTs. In state of Jammu and Kashmir, the ministry set the target of around thirty-eight thousand rural houses but ironically, 35,151 houses are still under construction. Sources further said that despite incessant thrust by the government of India toward rural areas, the RDD has become a laggard to implement the scheme in letter and spirit. "however, neighbouring- Himachal Pradesh having maximum hilly areas is at higher pedestal to implement the scheme and has succeeded to construct more than 65 percent rural houses but it is only Jammu and Kashmir state has constructed only 10 percent houses under the same scheme", said sources. The callousness of department concerned can be gauged from this fact that in the last three financial year, the union government has released sufficient amount of sanctioned amount but against the sanctioned amount the RDD has not utilised half half of amount so far which shows negligence on part of RDD to implement Centrally Sponsored Scheme in letter and spirit. |
