Petition challenging Insurance Policy for Govt employees | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 10: In a petition filed by Gulbadin Ahmad Mir seeking quashment of impugned scheme along with Govt.Order no.406-FD of 2018 dated 20.09.2018 whereby sanction has been accorded to the implementation of the Group Mediclaim Insurance Policy for all State Government Employees including Employees of PSUs/ Autonomous Bodies/ Universities on mandatory basis for a period of one year and extendable annually for three years based on satisfactory performance of the Insurer, the State High Court after hearing counsel for the petitioner issued notice to the Chief Secretary, Principal Finance Secy & Ors returnable within one week. The policy has been tied up with M/s Reliance General lnsurance Company Ltd on annual premium of ` 8777/- and ` 22,229/- (for employees an pensioners respectively). The said Policy will provide health insurance cover upto ` 6.00 lakh per employee/pensioner per annum along with his/her five dependent family members on floater basis. In the petition it has been submitted that the respondents introduced an insurance scheme known as "Chief Ministers Group Mediclaim Insurance policy for all Government Employees which has been made mandatory on state government employees and optional on All India Service employees/pensioners etc. therefore same is violation of Article 14 of the Constitution of India. Further more since most of the stake holders reside in the state of J&K but unfortunately there are only two hospitals(clinics in essence)empanelled at Srinagar and very few at Jammu which defeats the purpose of the scheme. |
