Infiltration bid foiled, four unidentified militants killed in Boniyar forests | | | Mohammad Sarfaraz Early Times Report BARAMULLA, Oct 18: Four unidentified militants have been killed in an encounter with government forces in upper reaches of forests in Boniyar area of this north Kashmir district on Thursday. Srinagar based news agency GNS while quoting an official said that a search party of army's 5 Grenadiers intercepted a group of militants at Torna post in the woods of Boniyar at around 8:30 am. "After being intercepted, the militants opened fire triggering off the gunfight which according to sources continued intermittently till 12:30 pm", said sources. However an army officer said that four unidentified militants have been killed and their identity and group affiliation are being ascertained. Meanwhile local sources told early times that, the security forces were seen moving towards the Torna post that is in the upper reaches of Boniyar. The gun shots were heard in the nearby forest area after which it was known that a gunfight has broken out in the nearby forests, as nobody was allowed to move in towards the forest area, said sources. They said that, later in the day it was known that, an infiltration bid was foiled by army, as the militants had tried to cross over this side of LoC in Uri sector. The area is highly dense, and it is believed that militants are desperate to cross over to this side of LoC, adding the operation is still underway in the area, said sources. |
