After seeking unity with NC, PDP leader takes U-turn | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 18: A day after a senior Peoples Democratic Party leader stressed for need for unity among the regional mainstream parties like National Conference, the PDP leader has come down heavily on NC leadership. On October 17, the PDP leader who is also a spokesperson had said all regional mainstream political parties should unite unconditionally for public interests. "Regional political parties must rise above partisan politics and accept the mistakes of past that led in weakening of the mainstream. PDP's stint with the Congress and BJP both leads to an introspection of the fact that New Delhi's iron fist policy has only derailed the peace process," he said. But the very next day, the PDP leader took a U-turn to take a dig at the NC leadership. The PDP leader accused the NC of pushing the state "to the precipice of disaster". The PDP spokesman had reacted to NC President Omar Abdullah's statement that Mehbooba Mufti was shedding crocodile tears. "By issuing such nefarious and uncalled for statements, Omar is actually striving hard to wangle his way into the corridors of power… Such unnatural and bizarre remarks of the NC leader will elicit no response from the people of the state as they have been witness to the tyrannical and corrupt rule unleashed upon the state by the NC," the PDP leader said. Sources said the PDP leader had come under scanner for his previous statement of forging unity with the NC and other regional parties and it was because of the same that he made another U-turn. Sources said the PPD leadership had taken a serious note as to why their leader was seeking unity with the NC when one such proposal as made by their party colleague was recently trashed by the leadership. Sources said even the PDP leader himself thought that he should end up any potential controversy over his statement on unity that he came down heavily on the NC. Last month another PDP leader had been lobbying for unity with NC for formation of alliance to keep Bharatiya Janta Party at bay. But the proposal that was backed by some businessmen of Kashmir was subsequently turned down by the PDP leadership. |
