Land mine blast victims demand compensation | | | Early Times Report POONCH, Oct 17: Land mine blast victims of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch have demanded adequate compensation from the government as their families have been going through constant financial constraints, sources said here today. The people who have been working with army as porters and the civilians working in fields or so have fallen prey to the land mine blasts as a result of which they become disabled and lose some vital part of their body due to accident. Sources said army hire services of some people in border areas like Mendhar, Balakote, Mankote, Gulpor and Mandi in Poonch district. These are the forwarding areas and fall quite near the line of control. Civilians who work in their fields or tame their cattle in these areas often fall prey to these land mines which explode accidently causing damage to the vital parts of their body of the victim. In some cases victim loses hand, foot or legs, they added. The people who work with army as porters and fall prey to these land mine blasts get a timely relief from the army but the civilians get nothing in spite they are being rendered job less hence their families face lots of problems besides financial crisis. In border district Rajouri also the land mine blast victims face the official apathy. They said if the case files some how, were made for our compensation these files piles up in tehsil or district head quarter offices only No case or recommendations are forwarded for army action, they added. Meanwhile president Dewan Welfare Society Mendhar Shahid Khan have urged the administration of Rajouri and Poonch to take the note of pleas of affected land mine blast victims and announce adequate compensation for them as their families hence been living in desperation, he added. |
