No end to PDP's woes; three more leaders likely to quit | Beigh tasked to talk to rebels | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Dec 14: The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) which is already battling rebellion within its ranks is likely to witness another shock with speculations rife that no less than three of its leaders are all set to leave the party. Meanwhile, party veteran Muzaffar Hussain Beigh who is back into the party fold is taking remedial measures to prevent the leaders from leaving the party. "Beigh sahib is a veteran leader and widely respected. He enjoys support amongst the leaders and we are sure that he will play a vital role in keeping the party intact," said a senior PDP leader. However, if sources are to be believed, there are no less than three senior PDP leaders which are standing at the fence and are preparing to leave the party. Two of them, as per the insiders hail from north while the other is from central Kashmir. The trio is following party legislators Imran Ansari, Haseeb Drabu, Abbas Wani and Abid Ansari who deserted the party after the dissolution of assembly in the state. "There is a disgruntlement within the ranks and it is Muzaffar Beigh who has the capacity to tackle the present crisis. He will hold confabulations with these leaders and final outcome in this regard is expected within a week," sources privy to the crises divulged. Meanwhile, a high level meeting of the PDP which was held on Dec 10 at the residence of party president Mehbooba Mufti was aimed to address the rebellion and announcement of Beigh's Ghar Wapsi. "The meeting was basically aimed to address the rebellion and assure that veteran Muzaffar Beigh isn't leaving the party at all," says a source. One of these leaders had recently objected to party's decision of boycotting the ULB polls. The PDP leader had then said that it was becoming increasingly necessary that both PDP and NC as also other pro- kashmir parties do more for a result-oriented exercise that helps to pre-empt impositions against the Kashmir cause and its constitutional guarantees. He added that civil society has made some efforts to caution people in the wake of danger to Article 35-A and Article 370. "However, till a workable strong political alliance, these efforts and Kashmir-friendly voices look feable and weak to foil the broader designs of a stronger enemy. |
