Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Maximum MCs in Kashmir valley are without funds, with the result all developmental works including sanitation, shifting of garbage's, construction of drains and lanes are pending, even the present councilors/chairman rue why that had fought elections when there are no funds for development.
Sources quoting Munici-pal Council Chairman, Bahrat Kumar as having said that, "I became a chairman after winning ULB elections, but we are lacking of funds, development is only possible when you have sufficient manpower and money.
We are lacking of funds, and even though we don't have received any salary so for. Empty handed you cannot do anything, there is no possibility of any development at all, said MC Chairman.
He said that before elections, we were promised that, at least 50 lakhs will be given as funds for each ward or councilor, but that is not the case as everything is visible.
Government was hell bent to conduct the election, but I must say that we come here at 10 and leaves the office at 4, that is the only job of ours, said Kumar.
He further said that we were promised for a good accommodation, funds but we felt sorry that why we fought the elections, it was better to lead a normal life without jumping into the well as the hollow promises were never fulfilled.
We are working in tough conditions, though people had good expectations from we people, but we have failed to do anything for the general public, as we cannot do anything without funds, we don't have good transport for work, we are lacking of good machineries, adding there is no uniform and other facilities for labours and all, Chairman added.
However if sources are to be believed they said that, "almost there are all MCs in Kashmir valley that are lacking of funds, as the government has failed to provide funds and other facilities to the municipal committees and councils for the development of their wards.
The councilors, chairman and other staff members cannot even do the work of sanitation; construction of drains in various towns has remained hanged, while as the shifting of garbage from roads including major lanes and by lanes is pending from past few months, said sources.
Sources said that, after the breakup of PDP-BJP coalition government, people were having great expectations from the GoI, but promises have only remained confined to papers only and practically there is no development on ground, government must understood that the situation demands much than the promises.
It is pertinent to mention here that, municipal elections were held in 4 phases in Jammu and Kashmir that were started from October 8, 10, 13 and on 16th and counting was on October 20.
Simultaneously the panchayat elections were held on November 17, 20, 24, 27, 29, and December 1, 4, 8 and 11 and counting also took place on the day of polling.
