Drug peddler held with 22 Kg poppy straw | | | Early Times Report Ramban, Dec 28 In continuation to the ongoing drive launched by Anita Sharma-SSP Ramban against drugs and its smuggling, Ramban police claimed to have arrested a drug peddler and recovered 22 Kg poppy straw (bhukki) from his possession. Police spokesman said that a police party led by Inspector Vijay Kotwal-SHO Ramban under supervision of Asgar Malik-DySP Hq Ramban and under close supervision of Sanjay Parihar-Additional SP established a surprise naka near Shan Palace, Ramban on NHW to check the vehicles. "Most of the times it has been seen that the vehicles plying on NHW are involved in smuggling of drugs etc and during checking & frisking of truck bearing registration number JK02V-7568 was on its way from Kashmir was signalled to stop for checking, but the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to run away, but the alert cops chased the vehicle and stoped it at a little distance", said spokesman. He further said that during thorough search police recovered poppy straw (bhukki) packed in 44 poly carry bags weighing about 22 kg from the stepney (spare tyre) of the vehicle, which is the new modus operandi for transporting the narcotics. Spokesman added that on questioning the suspected person disclosed his identity as Sandeep Kumar of Rajbagh, Kathua and has been taken into custody. In this regard a case under FIR No. 205/18 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act got registered against the accused person at Ramban police station and investigation has been geared up to asertain the source and other persons involved in smuggling of narcotics. |
