SRINAGAR, Jan 16: A national level examination conducted to select lecturers for the different subjects has come under a cloud since aspirants of a subject cried foul play accusing that the answer key uploaded by the testing agency was full of incorrect answers.
A group of aspirants who appeared in the Political Science subject for the National Eligibility Test (NET) told Early Times that despite challenging some of the answers in the answer key as uploaded by National Testing Agency (NTA) the concerned authorities did not bother to make the necessary corrections and finalized the result.
"The examination was held across the country on December 21, 2018 and the answer key was released on December 29, 2018. Answers of some of questions were not correct and we challenged the same since there is an option of challenge available to the students who appear in such an examination," said the aspirants.
The aspirants said that they were shocked when the result was out on January 5 adding that no correction whatsoever was made in the faulty answer key uploaded by NTA. They said the revised answer key was released on January 11adding the same was of no avail since the result had already been declared.
"We were in touch with the NTA authorities and they said that nothing can be done since the result had been declared as on date. In this way the NTA has accepted that mistakes have taken place while the answer key was released. However, they are not ready to correct the mistakes thus putting future of thousands of candidates at stake," said aspirants.
One of the aspirants who scored 164 marks in the examination said that his score would reach 170 marks if the final result is reframed while incorporating the corrections as pointed out by the candidates. He said since the cut-off for the Political Science subject is 166 he would make it to the lecturership provided the NTA accepts the mistakes and makes the necessary corrections.
The aspirants said that the answers of questions with question ids 91394323812, 91394323772, 91394323729 and 91394323710 were incorrect in the first answer key released by the NTA. They said the NTA released the correct answers of these questions in the revised answer key but without giving the benefit to the students thus pushing them to mental agony.
The aspirants have appealed the higher ups of University Grants Commission (UGC) to look into the matter and make the necessary corrections so that their career is not put to stake. They said that they would meet the UGC higher ups in this regard and present their point of view in the scheduled meeting.
