By expelling Bukhari, PDP facilitates formation of new front in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 19: Expulsion of Syed Altaf Bukhari from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) this evening seems to have laid foundation for another vibrant and alternate political group in Kashmir to take on National Conference and PDP. On the "wise advice of her communal and fundamentalist advisors", PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today expelled Bukhari from the party for indulged into "anti-party activities.". "Party has been watching with concern the activities of one of its leaders Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari for quite some time. Ever since the passing away of our founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, he (Altaf) has been perusing his personal political ambition at the cost of the party and state interest," PDP said in a statement issued this evening. Rumor mills had already been rife that Bukhari was planning to leave the party to float a new one. But there had a come a twist in the story when he went aboard and developed close relations with the Abdullahs over phone. As already reported by Early Times Bukhari was understood to have shown interest in joining the NC but the NC leadership had "sought time to discuss pros and cons of any such development." Sources said the NC President Omar Abdullah had called a meeting of his "core team" of four members, who are understood to have voted against any such decision as the "old guards in the old party would feel insecure by Bukhari." Sources said Bukhari who is a prominent political figure of Kashmir Valley is now focusing back on his decision to form an alliance with some other prominent leaders including Ghulam Hassan Mir, Hakim Yasin, Dilawar Mir, M Y Tarigami "to provide viable and strong alternative to both NC and PDP in Kashmir Valley. But such an alliance will create a new front in the political spectrum. "By expelling Bukhari, PDP leadership has facilitated formation of alternative front in Kashmir Valley", sources said. Defending expulsion of Bukhari, PDP stated, "In spite of this obvious backstabbing and subversion of people's interest the Party leadership believed in subsequent explanations and assurances of Bukhari and reposed complete trust in him by re-inducting him in cabinet". Despite repeated attempt Bukhari couldn't be contacted for comments. |
