Amid rise in terror attacks in Srinagar, SMC wants CRPF to remove concertina wires
1/19/2019 11:26:52 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 19: Even as the terrorists have intensified attacks on security forces in Srinagar, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has asked the paramilitary forces to remove concertina wires guarding their camps at some sensitive places.
Sources said SMC authorities recently created a scene outside a paramilitary camp along Airport Road in Srinagar asking the officials of the said installation to come out for a roadside discussion for removal of concertina wires.
Sources said the team from SMC asked the paramilitary to remove the wires from the front side of their camp.
Sources said the SMC's visit to the paramilitary camp was in violation of the code of conduct for such sensitive discussions. "In times of heightened security ahead of the Republic Day celebrations when militant attacks have been on rise you cannot do drama outside a paramilitary camp, this is nonsense," said a senior police official in know of the matter.
Sources said after stopping outside the paramilitary camp, the SMC team started shouting towards the CRPF bunker asking the Jawans to come out for the said conversation.
Sources said some of the jawans came out presuming that if was some protest outside the security camp.
"To everyone's shock it was the SMC team, which was doing a drama," said a police official.
Sources said the SMC team was told that it was no appropriate way of talking to Jawans and that if the civic body had any issues they should file a formal complaint with the competent authority.
But the team went ahead with the plan and asked the cameramen accompanying to record the roadside conversation in the cameras.
Source said the government has taken a serious note of the matter and are likely to seek an explanation from the concerned.
When contacted the SMC officials said "We are not used to such kind of working but it was the Deputy Mayor who directed us to accompany him for a video shooting there."
He said the behavior of the elected corporators had become a "headache for the administration." "These corporators are not aware of the code of conduct but do the same to make their videos. They are making a mockery of the system," the official said.
Despite repeated attempts the Deputy Mayor couldn't be contacted for comments. But his office confirmed that he had visited the said area to get concertina wires removed from the CRPF camp.
Meanwhile the SMC officials have appealed Governor SP Malik to personally look into the matter.
