DB directs JMC to complete 2 before March 31 | PIL seeking modern slaughter houses | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 5: In a significant order a Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan in a much publicized PIL seeking closure of unregulated/unregistered /unlicensed slaughter houses/meat shops in the State of J&K has directed Jammu Municipal Corporation to ensure the completion of two modern slaughter houses before 31st March, 2019 with both Halal Line as well as Jhatka Line at Gujjar Nagar, Jammu and Dogra Hall, Jammu respectively. After hearing Advocates, the Division Bench headed by Chief Justice Gita Mittal observed that the work for construction of two modern slaughter houses in Jammu stands allotted to J&K Police Housing Corporation, a State owned executing agency with the direction to complete the work before 31st March, 2019. At this stage Dr. Zaffar Iqbal Municipal Veterinary Officer, JMC in the open court filed a status report dated 31st January, 2019 indicating the same position. The DB further directed that Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu shall take requisite steps to apprise the Urban Local Bodies who shall ensure strict compliance with the requirements of law in respect of closure of illegally running slaughter houses. The Division Bench while expressing its displeasure observed that Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir have not cared to file any response in the present proceedings. The Division Bench further expressed surprise and observed that even the J&K State Pollution Control Board has given no report to the Court regarding status of slaughter houses in Kashmir. |
