Saffron Spice Park: People slam administration, Director Agriculture

JAMMU, Feb 14: The people of village Poochal and its adjoining areas known for cultivation of world famous Saffron today slammed the District Administration Kishtwar and the Director Agriculture, Jammu H.K. Razdan for their failure to ignore the Saffron growers during his today visited to Kishtwar. As per the details available with "Early Times", Director Agriculture, Jammu H.K. Razdan along with Director Research SKUAST -Jammu, Dr. J. P Sharma today had to visit Poochal area of Kishtwar in connection with "Saffron Spice Park" to be developed in the area as a result of which the Agriculture department has invited the saffron growers of Poochal for meeting and discussion with the visiting officials at Poochal, but instead of visiting the village, Director Agriculture prefer to spent its valuable time in the cozy office of DC Kishtwar instead of visiting to Poochal which is around 4-5 KM away from Kishtwar to meet the saffron grows. The angry saffron growers after waiting for several hours held a strong protest and raise the slogans against District Administration and the visiting agriculture team.
Speaking on this occasion, Retired Naib Tehsildar Aziz Mohammad Khawja said that they have been invited for exchange of thoughts and for the briefing about this Saffron growers welfare scheme added that despite making them to wait for several hours, they didn't come as a result of which there is anger among the people. "They are befooling us--- instead to meeting us-we have been waited for several hours and now we are leaving in protest" said the villagers who had come to meet the Director Agriculture. Later as per the official handout, the team visited the area along with ACR Kishtwar Amir Hussain, Tehsidar Kishtwar, Showkat Matoo, CAO Kishtwar, R. K. Hiteshi, Sr. Scientist (SKUAST-K), Dr. F. A. Nehvi , Sr. Scientist, (SKUAST-J), Dr. Vishal Gupta besides concerned district officers.
