New allies in Kashmir go into 'strategic hibernation' | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 14: Two former leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party have gone in for a "strategic hibernation following a pact between the two." Sources said the two leaders, one of whom was expelled from the PDP and the other one had resigned, have developed "cordial relations and look ahead to be strategic partners" in the coming elections. Sources said following a series of meetings in Jammu facilitated by their common friends who happen to be businessmen from Kashmir, the duo has "resolved to keep their political activities a low key for the time being." Sources said one of them who had a role in preparing "agenda of alliance told the other that the present state of politics demands that unless we gain support from relevant quarters, our political activities should be minimal." Sources said the duo looks ahead for a major development from their side ahead of the 2019 assembly elections in the state. It was reliably learnt that the two leaders, who were otherwise accused of "leg pulling each other as ministers in the previous PDP-BJP alliance have decided to go hand in politics ahead." Sources said the two would be one team in the coming elections. While one of them having stakes in business is in contact with politicians in north Kashmir, the other one is lobbying in south Kashmir for support. "As of now both have decided not to join any party but to be silent independents till the political chaos settles down," said a source privy to the two. Sources said the two politicians are drawing main support from a group of Kashmiri businessmen. "What is common between the two is that both of them enjoy good relations with a section of influential Kashmiri businessmen and this has helped them be united at this point of time," said source. He said the two got close after a lunch that was facilitated by their friend in Jammu last month. "Since then have formed any alliance and work in coordination on each and every point," said the source. Despite repeated attempts the two couldn't be contacted for comments. |
