Kishtwar youth hold protest, urge Guv for early restoration of electricity
2/14/2019 11:23:52 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 14: The youth belonging to different areas of Kishtwar town and its adjoining areas today held a strong protest against the failure of the district administration, NHPC and Power Development Department to restore electricity in the District which has been plunged into darkness since last 9 days.
The protest was also against the failure of the administration to mitigate the problems and sufferings faced by the people due to black marketing of Kerosene Oil and non-availability of health care facilities in the far flung areas of Kishtwar District.
During the protest, the angry youth said that hydropower projects in Chenab Valley must have make our area self-reliant vis a vis energy, but we people have been given false assurances that there would be job creation through these projects while at the same time they neither get the job nor get the electricity. They said that these false dreams are being sold to Chenab Valley people by the authorities and successive governments.
"Neither we became self-reliant in energy sector nor we locals get enough jobs created in hydropower projects except some jobs for labourers," said Wasil Doolwal.
He said that it is shameful that state government is buying power from other states and NHPC is exporting enough power from J&K by plundering our natural resources.
"We have only lost, and gained nothing-- we have destroyed our nature and in return got false assurances. At a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi claims to have met the target of 100 % electrification across India in May this year, 80 % Government schools in Jammu & Kashmir are still un- electrified. Areas like Marwah and Warwan having population of around 40000 are 100% unelectrified," Doolwal said adding that youths of our state have not only been deprived of the jobs in these power projects but Chenab valley have also lost the environment, water resources and forests as well.
Sharik Saroori said that the authorities fail to clear several roads in Inderwal constituency adding that the people on Kuriya-Keshwan road cleared the boulders triggered due to massive landslide by risking their own lives after administration fail to clear the landslide.
