Sajad Lone gives vent to feelings on stone pelting in Jammu, remains mum on same in Srinagar | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Feb 18: Separatist turned mainstream politician turned minister, Sajad Gani Lone has of late developed a dislike and hatred for stone pelting saying that stone pelting is not acceptable in the contemporary society. Lone who is the chairman of Peoples Conference gave vent to his feelings in this regard today at Jammu, the winter capital of the state. The former minister was referring to stone pelting incidents that took place in Jammu in the aftermath of February 14 Fidayeen attack on a convoy of CRPF that led to killing of 49 personnel of the force and injuries to many others. "If stone pelting is wrong in Kashmir, it is equally wrong in Jammu and should attract the same legal and administrative response. What is wrong in Kashmir can't be deemed acceptable and tolerable in Jammu. Law and Order is the subject of the state administration and they need to ensure there is zero tolerance for these mobs in Jammu and those who are involved are arrested and persecuted", said Lone. If stone pelting is wrong what stopped the Peoples Conference Chairman is deploring the same when it used to be a regular feature in the Kashmir valley. Lone has hardly talked about the stone pelting in Kashmir and his 'sermon' on stone pelting in Jammu would not go down well with the people living in the winter capital of the state. Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) that owned Lone and referred to him as their own man never asked him to go all out a launch a tirade against the stone pelting and the people who are supporting the same. The BJP had in fact given their full support when he tried to form the state government in the state in November last year. The Peoples Conference Chairman who referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his elder brother played it safe when it comes to stone pelting and the consequences attached to the same. He has been very selective in this regard and on most of the occasion he has preferred to remain mum on the issue. Lone said that intimidation and harassment of Kashmiri students, professionals and families living outside Kashmir was unacceptable and cannot be passed off as a purportedly natural outburst. "These incidents are tantamount to trivializing the enormous sufferings and the pain suffered by the people of Kashmir over the period of the last three decades while their lives were engulfed by the scourge of violence and terror." Lone arrived in Jammu in order to reach out to members of the community to ensure their safety and security. He said that all state governments are duty bound to ensure the safety and security of all Kashmiri students, professionals and families residing in their respective States and no laxity should be tolerated in this matter. |
