Vikramaditya to be Congress candidate from Udhampur-Doda seat | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 8: Congress is learnt to have finalized the name of Vikramaditya Singh as the party candidate from Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seat for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The name was approved by AICC president Rahul Gandhi on the recommendation of Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha and senior Congress leader Jyotirditya Scindia, who is brother in law of Vikramaditya Singh. Though there has been no official announcement in this regard, sources said that Vikramaditya Singh has been asked by the party high command to tighten the belt and go ahead with his election campaign for the Parliamentary seat, which is presently being represented by Dr Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister Office. According to the sources, Vikramaditya Singh had joined Congress last year with an assurance from Rahul Gandhi that he would be suitably adjusted and Ghulam Nabi Azad wanted him to contest Parliament election from Udhampur-Doda constituency. However, following outcome of the Local Body elections in the State, in which BJP captured maximum of the Municipal bodies, Vikramaditya Singh changed his mind and preferred to contest the Assembly election from Reasi constituency. In this connection, he also conducted a series of tours of Reasi Assembly constituency. Now in wake of clear indications that Assembly elections are likely to be held later on and not with Lok Sabha polls, sources said that both Jyotirditya Scindia and Ghulam Nabi Azad advised Vikramaditya Singh to contest Parliament election from Udhampur-Doda constituency. |
