Civilian shot dead in Awantipora | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 15: A civilian was killed by suspected militants on late Thursday night in Gulzarp-ora area of Awantipora of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. Reports said that Manzoor Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Dogripora aged about 40 years was killed by militants. The body of the slain was later handed over to the family members following completion of medico-legal formalities. Police said that initial investigations revealed that he was forcibly taken away by the militants and was later shot dead. "A case in this regard has been registered. Officers from the local police unit are investigating the circumstances which led to this incident," police said. Earlier, on Thursday late afternoon, a block president of National Conference identified as Mahammad Ismail Wani was shot at by the suspected militants in Anantnag district. Ismail is receiving treatment at Srinagar hospital. A police spokesman said that in Gulzarpora area of Southern Kashmir's District Awantipora, police attended a 'terror' crime spot following reports of a killing of civilian by terrorists in the area. Officers attending the 'terror' crime spot learnt that one individual was shot dead by the militants. He has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Mohamm-ad Lone resident of Dogripora aged about 40 years. Body will be handed over to the family members after completion of medico-legal formalities. Initial investigation has revealed that he was forcibly taken away by the terrorists and shot dead. Police has registered a case in this regard. Officers from the local police unit are at the spot and are investigating the circumstances which led to this incident. |
