JAMMU, Mar 15: The State Forest Research Institute, J&K, Jammu in collaboration with the Department of Botany, University of Jammu organized Forest Flower Festival on the theme "Floral Biodiversity Conservation and Innovation" in the Botanical Garden of the University of Jammu. The festival was inaugurated by the Advisor to the Governor, K. Vijay Kumar. The objective of the festival was to know the floral diversity of the state and its conservation for sustainable use. The Chief Guest inspected various stalls displayed by the departments of SFRI, Forest (T), Wild Life Protection, Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing, Floriculture, Agricultural, Indian Institute of Integrative Medicines (IIIM), Jammu and the Department of Botany, University of Jammu and showed keen interest in the diversity of flowers of different species. O. P. Sharma, Director, State Forest Research Institute (SFRI) while welcoming the Chief Guest, other dignitaries and participants gave a brief account on the floral diversity of the state and the products derived from it and its linkage in providing livelihood. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest stressed upon the need of conservation of floral diversity of the state for its sustainable use and in providing livelihood to the masses of the state. He emphasized on the collaboration in the field of research amongst Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture and Forestry. He appreciated and complimented the efforts made by the team of State Forest Research Institute (SFRI) in organizing such an event. He also distributed prizes amongst the winning students and participants in the events of Garland making, Flower-identification, Poster making etc. The function was presided over by Manoj Kr. Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, and Dilbagh Singh, Director General of Police, J&K was the Guest of Honour.
