PIL seeking societies for prevention of cruelty to animals | HC asks Div Coms to file status report | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 15: A Division Bench of J&K High Court comprising Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Sindhu Sharma has directed Divisional Commissioner Jammu as also the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to file fresh status reports within six weeks about pending registrations with the Registrar of Societies. When the contempt petition filed by SAVE (Save Animal Value Environment), an NGO working for welfare of animals, through its chairperson Devinder Kaur Madaan alias Rumpy Madaan came up for hearing, Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed appearing for the petitioner. He submitted that vide judgment dated October 11, 2017 passed by the Division Bench, the state government was directed to constitute district societies for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for all 22 districts of J&K and this action was to be undertaken by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. Advocate Ahmed further submitted that GAD has sent numerous reminders to Divisional Commissioner Jammu as well as Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to constitute the district societies and also to get these societies registered under the Societies Registration Act. But both the senior officers of the state have taken the directions of the court casually as till date the SPCAs in all 22 districts have not been constituted nor registered under the Societies Registration Act. |
