Lift curfew from Kishtwar or defer polls: Vikramaditya to CEC | | | Early Times Network JAMMU, Apr 15: Expressing concern over administration's biased move to stop Congress party workers from campaigning in curfew bound Kishtwar region and giving a free hand to activists of BJP to go out and canvass for Dr Jitendra Singh, Senior Congress leader and party candidate from Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Parliamentary Constituency Vikramaditya Singh today appealed to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to intervene and ensure that either the curfew is lifted immediately or else the poll is deferred and rescheduled for third phase of Lok Sabha polls, to give equal opportunity to all parties to campaign. In a statement issued here, Vikramaditya Singh alleged that despite situation coming back to normal the local administration is not lifting the curfew only to give undue advantage to BJP candidate Dr Jitendra Singh, who happens to be sitting MP and Union Minister, by allowing only BJP workers to carry out campaigning in areas falling in curfew bound Kishtwar. He said that lopsided restrictions for only Congress are severely denting its campaigning as the district level activists are finding it difficult to shift election material to curfew bound poll segments besides it has almost become impossible to establish connect with the people to tell them about the policies and plans of party. Alleging discrimination of highest degree, the Congress candidate asked the Kishtwar administration to justify its stand of allowing workers of BJP candidate to move freely in curfew bound areas for campaigning and imposing curbs on movement of workers of other parties. He asked the CEC to take cognizance and issue necessary instructions besides taking suitable action against black sheep in the administration which are marring the spirit of free and fair elections by taking sides of those who are in power. He alsoappealed various sections of society including youth, farmers, traders and women to vote and support Congress to stop 'discrimination' with Chenab Valley. |
