Many Christians commemorate the passion, suffering and death of the Cross of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Many Christians spend this day in fasting, prayer, repentance and meditation on the agony and suffering of Christ on the Cross.
Jesus' Crucifixion was a horribly painful and disgraceful form of Capital punishment used in the ancient world. This method of execution involved binding the victim's hands and feet and nailing them to a cross, a hanout out issued by Catholic community said. It said Jesus Christ the central figure of Christianity, died on Roman Cross. Christian theology teaches that Christ's death provided the perfect atoning sacrifice for the sins all humankind, thus making the crucifix or cross one of the defining symbols of Christianity, it added.
Special prayers for the prosperity and peace in Jammu and Kashmir State were offered during the occasion.
