Jammu, Apr 19: Birla Open Minds International School, Jammu inaugurated three day MUN event in the school premises.
The MUN is a three-day event which focuses on enhancing the students' experience by providing a platform to improve their critical thinking, public speaking, group communication, and research & policy analysis.
The Chief Guest of the event was Pradeep Dutta, Managing Director (J&K), Times Now. The event began on a spiritual note by lightning of the lamp by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. This was followed by 'Saraswati Vandana', presented by the students of BOMIS.
The conference aimed at developing verbal skills in terms of conduct during an actual UN session. More than 250 participants from different schools of J&K and NCR roleplayed as delegates of different countries. Six committees were formed which discussed & deliberated various agendas of national & international interest.
Each committee had a key agenda and spoke eloquently on topics like 'Combating International Insurgencies with special reference to the Kashmir issue', 'Reforms in the UN Council', 'Combating Global Terrorism, with special reference to ISIS & Al Qaeda', 'International Press Corps' & 'Special Indian Emergency Committee'. Looking back at the history, the 'Historic Committee :1947' relived the historic proceedings that took place when the prominent leaders of India demanded a separate nation. Not only this, but also, one of the committees had a talk about the 'Rights of Women in Conflict & Post-Conflict areas'.
The participants researched world policy, brainstormed global problems and put forward unique solutions as the MUN provided them a platform to display skills in diplomacy, public negotiations, logic and research.
Pradeep Dutta, in his keynote address, emphasized the importance of UN, UNICEF, UNHRC and other such organizations that are working towards the achievement of a common goal of development. He also gave much impetus on the fact that the children are the leaders of tomorrow and such programmes should be organized from time to time to give them a global outlook and boost their critical thinking, teamwork and leadership abilities.
