I-T deptt conducts raids at properties of Imran Ansari, reports rejected by PC leader | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Apr 25: The Income Tax department today conducted raids at two properties of a family member of former Jammu and Kashmir minister and Peoples Conference leader Imran Raza Ansari, official sources said. They said the security forces, including police, sealed Karan Nagar area in Srinagar in the morning today. Later, I-T officials carried out raids at North Point Towers, a commercial complex owned by the kin of Ansari in Karan Nagar. Similarly, they said raids were also carried out at another property of the family member in Alamgari Bazaar area in the old city. However, I-T department officials said that the raids were carried out on a business family and were not connected to Ansari. The Peoples Conference leader's sister is married to the family whose premises were raided. Ansari, who was a senior leader in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), left Mehboba Mufti led party after the PDP-BJP coalition government collapsed following withdrawal of support by the saffron party last year. Later, Ansari joined Peoples Conference, accusing Mehbooba of nepotism. Meanwhile, in a statement Ansari refuted reports of alleged raids conducted by enforcement agencies on any of his premises and said these 'rumours' were motivated and reflected the panic and desperation among the traditional twin parties who stood stunned by the emergence of a strong and viable political alternative in the state. "None of my premises have been raided. Rumours and baseless reports to this effect are politically motivated and I am proceeding with defamation suits against those news agencies and portals who have carried forward this rumour without any authentication", Ansari said. |
