Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 27: Delayed fencing of forest closure at has encouraged land mafia to encroach upon the land of the closure. Pertinently an amount of Rs 31.71 lakhs was sanctioned for fencing last year. However the work has not started to this day. Sources told Early Times that the Forest Department seems virtually has surrendered before the land mafia which has been illegally grabbing State land under the nose of department. The continuous delay on the part of department to start fencing work of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) Forest Closure at Kanachak, for which the funds to the tune of Rs 31, 74, 500 were sanctioned in January, 2018 has been giving every chance to the encroachers to grab the Forest land. "This MFP Forest Closure Kanachak was established by the Project Officer of Forest Department over State land spread to an area of about 420 kanals in the year 1997-98 with full cooperation of the locals. Apart from maintaining ecological balance in the area, the said closure has been playing a barrier's role for the locals during cross border firing as it is situated very much close to the IB," sources informed. Although the matter was brought into the notices of higher ups several times by locals, no action was taken. Sources informed that the locals approached the senior most officer of Forest Department about the delay in fencing the closure. He said the army had raken over the vlosure following tension on the borders. The locals contest this. According to them army is not present in the area. Sources further informed that the chain link fencing of this closure has not been started despite lapse of more than a year and due to lack of coordination between Forest Department, Revenue Department and Police Department. |
