| Dr Karan Singh writes to Governor over pathetic condition of Kala Kendra | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 10: Senior Congress leader, Dr Karan Singh raised serious concern over the pathetic condition of Kala Kendra.
In a communiqué sent to Governor Satya Pal Malik here on Friday, Dr Karan Singh said that for several years he have been writing to your predecessors regarding the pitiable state of the Kala Kendra whose impressive new building was constructed in 2004 just across the Tawi bridge.
"It was envisaged as a vibrant centre for the art and culture of the Jammu region and was to include a museum, art galleries and spaces for cultural events. It is most unfortunate that over the last decade instead of using it for the purpose for which it was constructed, it has been allowed to fall into neglect and diffuse," he said.
"On one occasion after making enquiries I was told that there was some inter-departmental struggle between tourism and culture regarding this building. Whatever the reason, it is most unfortunate that such a beautiful new construction has been allowed to deteriorate. I am enclosing an article in a Jammu Daily dated 5th May 2019 which describes the whole position," Dr Karan Singh said.
Dr Karan Singh requested the Governor to take urgent steps to remedy the situation, give clear responsibility to a single department or institute and undertake urgent restoration and repair work so that it becomes operative once again as a show-case for the multi-faceted Dogra culture. |
