We The Human expresses concern over rise in air pollution | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 5: In a meeting convened by senior members of "We The Human - Forum for Nature and Mankind" to commemorate World Environment Day with "Beat Air Pollution" UN's this year theme, K Y S Manhas, retired Principal Secretary Law and Vice Chairman of Executive Body of the trust gave a brief account of activities done, during last one year, by the trust among school, college students, farmers and general public in Jammu, Samba, Ramban as well as Srinagar districts to make them aware about a number of environmental issues posing threat to human existence. He said that the J&KSPCB, the agriculture/ horticulture departments need to take a serious call to stop on-going practice of large-scale burning of tree leaves, branches and trash in Kashmir valley8k which result in the build-up of massive air pollution. What makes the burning of leaves hazardous are the layers of smoke-filled fog in environment and this smoke contains carbon monoxide & carbon dioxide, which heavily pollute the air and the environment. The members also expressed serious concern on high levels of air pollution caused by brick kilns. They all expressed hope that the government would promote cement blocks by providing subsidy to manufacturers and buyers as an alternative to traditional bricks manufactured in pollution causing brick kilns. |
