Crores go down the drain as Govt shelves Tawi Lake project
6/18/2019 12:43:20 AM

Early Times Report

JAMMU, June 17: The Government has shelved much hyped Jammu lake on which the work has been stopped for over last six months now.
With the abandoning of the work on the project hundreds of crores spent on it so far have gone down the drain as the State Government has not shown any seriousness to resume work on the project whose main objective was to attract tourists to Jammu.
According to sources the work on the project was stopped soon after PDP, BJP government came to power when it decided to change the design of the project after finding some faults in earlier design.
The then Government decided to construct the lake on Sabarmati river front and the consultancy was approached. It was informed that soon the work will be resumed on the Tawi River Front on the pattern of Sabarmati river in Gujarat.
But in last four years neither the previous PDP-BJP Government took any positive initiative nor the Governor's administration. This way hundreds of crores of rupees spent over the project have gone down the drain and no one in Government is ready to share the responsibility for that.
The previous PDP-BJP Government accused its predecessors NC Congress of not designing project properly which could have created a havoc in Jammu after lake was constructed but later themselves did not take any initiative to construct the river front the name given to project by them.
This has despite spending of hundreds of crores of rupees on the lake. About 60 percent work on lake was complete and for 40 per ent remaining work it suffered due to personal problems of the leaders in previous NC -Congress Government and their successors who tried to find fault in the design prepared during its predecessors rule.
Sources said the construction of the lake has been nobody's responsibility at the helm of affairs and it seems that people of Jammu have also forgotten it for good as they too are not bothered for it's construction.
However there is a million dollar question that who will be held responsible for putting public exchequre to a heavy loss as crores of rupees spent on it have gone down the drain.
