Back to Village' prog: Complaints of corruption galore | | | Asif Iqbal Naik

Kishtwar, June 23: Even as people in rural areas of Kishtwar are welcoming the visiting officers with great enthusiasm, more complaints about non-delivery of government-run schemes at the grass root level due to prevailing corruption in the system are pouring in. The second phase of the unique initiative, 'Back to Village' for delivering governance at the door steps of public like first phase is gaining momentum as the civil administration on Sunday carried out multiple activities enshrined in the program in 54 panchayats of district Kishtwar. District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana visited Panchayat Badhat and Bugrana of Block Drabshalla wherein he met with PRIs, prominent citizens and locals and sought feedback from the villagers about ongoing development works and also listened to their grievances. In Panchayat Badhat DDC, Director General Youth Services and Sports, J&K Dr. Saleem-ur- Rehman was designated as visiting officer in Panchayat Bhadat who launched the 'Back to Village' initiative in the second phase. Various events were held including those organized by Department of Youth Services and Sports Kishtwar like tug of war, kabbadi, volley ball and Swacchta rally in Badhat Panchayat at HSS Badhat wherein scores of students participated. Besides ACD Kishtwar, Anil Kumar Chandail, DYSSO, Jaffer Haider, BDO Drabshalla Kapil Deol and other concerned officers, staff of the Sports Department Kishtwar remained present. Later, prizes were distributed by the dignitaries among the winners and also provided them sports kits, track suits. The DC urged upon the locals to keep their surroundings clean and green besides conserve every single drop of water by taking various measures like storage of rain water etc. He further asked them to adopt scientific methods of agriculture, horticulture, dairy and poultry sector so that the economy of the district boost up. He further listened the grievance of public and assured them that their genuine grievances/demands shall be noted down by concerned visiting officers and it would be taken up further with concerned quarters for early redressal. Meanwhile, people continue to complain about embezzlement of government funds, particularly in MGNREGA and non-release of payments, material supplied share while at the same time people also complaint about embezzlement in ration. The people say they are receiving less ration in Drabshalla and Bhunzwah blocks and called for probe into withholding two months ration to the people, beside black marketing of kerosene oil. Like on previous occasions, people also complain about poor roads, lack of infrastructure in schools, shortage of staff, absenteeism culture in government offices, and called for regular visits of senior officials in the rural areas. |
